Here at High Desert Journal we often stumble upon great pieces of writing that fall just outside our geographical boundaries, yet speak to issues and concerns relevant to the interior West. In this series, which we call Further Afield, we bring you those stories. As always, we will continue to take a proudly regional stand, at the same time recognizing that in this age of globalization the interior American West is connected via ecology, immigration, and history to regions across the country and across the globe.
